Description
POLAPRIME 2 is an aquaborne, single component PVC/acrylic primer that is highly effective over asphaltic and cementitious surfaces. It penetrates deeply and coalesces to promote superior adhesion of the coatings to be applied. POLAPRIME 2 is a primer/sealer that improves the cohesive strength of weak substrates to improve adhesion of coatings.
- Consolidates fragile surfaces for maximum adhesion
- Removes substrate air pockets to prevent bubbles and pinholes
- Has rheology adjusted for optimum coverage and penetration
- Rapid drying reduces dirt pickup and meteorological interruptions
- Gives maximum bond performance between substrate and topcoat
- Highly cost effective and performance designed
- Protects against staining from the substrate migrating to the surface coating
- Encapsulates well adhered coating remnants
- Fire retardant
- Primer is a medium grey color, and is thinner than standard paint primers
- Improves adhesion of coatings to concrete, wood, asphalt, mineral
composites, and synthetic or mineral insulation
Coverage: Approximate 200 sq ft/gal, depending upon substrate
Surfaces must be free of dirt, loose debris, oil, grease, or other substances that would interfere with bond. It is advisable to have the surface as dry as possible. All repairs of damage or defects must be made prior to coating. Stir thoroughly for 3 minutes, then keep the can covered whenever possible to prevent contaminating the primer.
Apply by spray, roller, or brush. Roller and brush techniques provide best penetration and performance results. For roller application, use a medium or short nap roller. For brush application, use a nylon bristle brush. Apply POLAPRIME 2 only to cover the surface. It is not advisable to pour POLAPRIME 2 straight onto the surface. Apply the appropriate surface coating as
soon as possible after thoroughly drying to prevent contamination of the surface, ideally within 2 days. If the POLAPRIME 2 has been left exposed for more than 7 days, the surface must be cleaned thoroughly to remove all dirt and contaminants.
Application temperature must be above 45°F (air temperature) and the surface temperature must be 5° above dewpoint for thorough drying to occur. As soon as the POLAPRIME 2 is touch‐dry, it may be coated immediately. Drying time is in the range of 10 to 30 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity.
MAINTENANCE
If an area becomes damaged, remove loose substrate and coating and clean the damaged area. Repair the substrate and re‐prime, then topcoat with a finish coating to match the surrounding area. Clean tools and equipment with water before the POLAPRIME 2 dries; after that, solvent cleaning may be necessary.
Adhesion Primer for Concrete and Asphalt Surfaces
- Engineered as a high-performance primer for asphalt surfaces, POLAPRIME 2 delivers deep penetration and surface consolidation for stronger, longer-lasting coating adhesion across asphalt, concrete, and cementitious substrates.
- Formulated as a concrete bonding primer, its water-based acrylic PVC technology enhances surface cohesion while improving the bond between the substrate and the applied coating system.
- Ideal for roof and exterior coating systems, it creates a stable, sealed base that supports uniform application, reduces surface defects, and ensures consistent performance in demanding environmental conditions.
Why Use an Adhesion Primer Before Coating?
Using a high-quality adhesion primer ensures proper surface preparation, strengthening substrates while improving coating performance. A penetrating primer sealer enhances bond strength, reduces porosity, and minimizes surface defects, allowing coatings to adhere evenly and last longer, even under demanding exterior conditions where durability and consistency are essential.
Key Features of PolaPrime 2 Primer
Deep Penetration for Maximum Adhesion
POLAPRIME 2 penetrates deeply into porous and weak substrates, reinforcing the surface from within. This ensures coatings achieve a stronger bond, improving durability and long-term performance across demanding concrete, asphalt, and exterior applications.
Consolidates Fragile and Dusting Substrates
This primer stabilizes loose or deteriorating surfaces by binding particles together, creating a solid foundation. It is especially effective as a primer for cementitious surfaces, helping restore integrity before protective coatings are applied.
Eliminates Air Pockets, Pinholes, and Bubbles
By filling voids and reducing trapped air, POLAPRIME 2 minimizes common coating defects. This results in a smoother finish and more consistent application, particularly when used as an acrylic primer for coatings in exterior systems.
Fast Drying for Faster Project Completion
Its rapid drying time reduces delays due to weather or job-site conditions. As a water-based primer for exterior surfaces, it allows contractors to move quickly from priming to coating without compromising adhesion or quality.
Fire Retardant Properties for Added Protection
In addition to adhesion benefits, POLAPRIME 2 offers fire-retardant properties that enhance safety and support coating systems where added protection is important.
